Abstract
Toexplorethesplittingstrengthofexpandedpolystyrene(EPS)concretewiththedifferent
volumeconcentrationsofEPS,Braziliandiscspecimenswerediametrallyimpactedbyusinga74-mmdiametersplitHopkinsonpressurebar(
SHPB)atdifferentimpactvelocities.ForeachvolumeconcentrationofEPS,
theBraziliandiscspecimensweretestedinthecasesoftwodifferentparticlesizes
ofEPS,respectively.Andaccuratelydesignedcushionswereplacedintheinterspacesbetweentheinputandoutputbarsandthespecimenstopreventthespecimensfrombei
gcrushedduetothestress
concentrationatthetwoendsofthespecimens.Atthesametime,anappropriatepulseshaperwas
usedtoensureenoughtimeforthespecimenstoreachanequilibriumstressstateduringtheexperiment.
AndthesplittingfailurepatternsofEPSconcretewereanalyzed.Theresultsdisplaythatthe
splittingstrengthofEPSconcreteincreaseswiththeincreaseofstressrate;andthatintheEPSconcretewiththelowvolumeconcentrationofEPS,
thesplittingstrengthofEPSconcretetakesonacertainparticlesizeeffect,
andthiseffectdisappearsgraduallywiththeincreaseoftheEPSvolumeconcentration.
