Abstract
BasedonexplicitdynamicfiniteelementsimulationbyANSYS/LS-DYNA,thein-planedynamiccrushingofhoneycombswithnegativePoissonsratioeffectswasnumericallyinvestigated.
Undertheassumptionthattheedgelengthandthicknesswerethesame,thehexagonalhoneycomb
modelsfilledwithconcavecellsbythevariationofexpandingangleswereestablished.Theeffectsof
expandingangleandimpactvelocityonthein-planecrushingdeformationandenergyabsorptioncapacitiesofhoneycombswerediscussedindetail.
Resultsshowthatthein-planedynamiccrushingof
re-entranthoneycombsreliesontheexpandingangle.Thelargeristheabsolutevalueoftheexpandingangle,
thehigherisplateaustressattheproximalend.Thespecimensdisplayhigherenergyabsorptioncapacitieswiththeincreaseoftheimpactvelocity
